How long do we have to wait before trial..?

I know someone who is in jail on false accusations and considering that the girls parents are pushing it (no its not statutory either) this has been dragging out. Now that it is going to trail how long do you think he is going to have to sit incarcerated until they make a trial date? Why do they put things like this off. I mean the girl didn't even press charges until six months later?
