What does it mean to vomit bile?

When I woke up this morning, I gagged brushing my teeth (my tongue specifically) and after gagging the first few times nothing came up. On the third or fourth gag, I began to spit up bright yellow bile. Is this just because there was nothing else in my stomach or is it a problem?
